A new life of hope and a brighter future, spiritually grounded by faith in God. That is what Mount Dora Children’s Home offers to single parents and children who come through our programs. Below are profiles of real people whose lives were changed by their time spent at MDCH.

A new home for Kim and her children

After years of hard work and determination, Kim Johnson recently became the first graduate of the Single Parent Program to move directly into her own home, a newly built one at that.

“I feel like all of my hard work is finally paying off,” Kim said. “It means the world to me to have my own new home. I am the first person in my family to own a home built from the ground up.”

Kim, along with her children Se’Niah and George, were originally from Mississippi. While in the Single Parent Program, Kim earned her certification as an early childhood teacher and now teachers preschoolers at Episcopal Children’s Services.

“The program has been a real blessing to me. I wish this was a program that could be offered everywhere. I feel blessed; truly, truly blessed.”
