Single Mom Graduates and Looks Ahead to Her Next Chapter of Life

When Ashlee Gainey first came to Mount Dora Children's Home as a single mom, she didn't have the training she needed to secure a good job to support herself and her young daughter, Iris. Now, 2 1/2 years later, Ashlee has graduated from the MDCH Single-Parent Program and is employed in a promising health care career. Her future looks bright.

"The Single-Parent Program has saved me and my daughter's future," Ashlee said. "I have learned to be a better Christian and a better mother. I am now navigating through life prepared for what's next. I am beyond blessed to have had this opportunity."

Ashlee learned about the Single-Parent Program through her church in Sarasota, Florida. Once she arrived, she quickly earned a reputation as a hard worker. She attended class at Lake Technical College and earned a certificate as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, while also working part time and being mom to Iris, now age 4.

She also discovered some new talents while in the program. Ashlee shared her story and told how the Children's Home has helped her at several large events, including the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner and several of MDCH's regional benefit dinners. She learned she has a gift for public speaking.

Ashlee and Iris recently moved off campus and now have their own modern apartment. Iris will continue to attend school at Mount Dora Christian Academy's Early Childhood Center.

We're proud of Ashlee and excited to see how God will bless her in the years ahead.
