At Mount Dora Children’s Home, we know that being a single parent can be challenging. We’re here to offer hope and assistance toward a better future for you and your children.
The Single-Parent Program is a time-limited, skill-based, outcome-oriented support program designed to provide opportunities for personal transition and transformation. Program activities focus on improving outcomes that enhance the well-being of participants as successful single parents. As such, parenting is a top priority throughout a parent’s participation in this program.
Throughout the program, single parents will work alongside a support team to develop goals and enhance skills for successful parenting. Open communication and the expression of feelings are emphasized. Skills associated with self-care; decision-making; problem-solving; the development and maintenance of family routines and traditions; home maintenance; financial self-sufficiency and independence; and the development of healthy social relationships are taught and practiced.
To aid in goal-directed outcomes, single parents will receive counseling, life coaching, Christian parent training, mentoring, and academic and employment readiness skill-building.
Academic and employment readiness preparation may involve obtaining a GED, vocational training, or the pursuit of higher education. Additionally, parents are encouraged to go to work or school at least part-time or a combination of work and school while in the program.
The Single-Parent Program structure is designed to provide more intensive supports initially with a gradual fading of supports as a participant progresses through the program and establishes themselves independent of the program.
Once a single parent participant successfully completes the program, children attending the Mount Dora Christian Academy will be allowed to continue their education at MDCA using tuition assistance in continued support of both child and family wellness.
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever”
The Support Team
The Support Team is a group of people who assist the single-parent families in developing written goals and strategies to accomplish desired outcomes. Members of the Support Team are actively engaged with the single parent and provide a single parent with honest and open feedback throughout the program.
Support Team feedback is designed to provide the single parent with encouragement to become a stronger more confident parent who will be able to raise their child(ren) as they personally, professionally, and spiritually grow as an individual.
