Please give generously so the Home children can enjoy a happy summer
The other day I overheard one of our parents remark, “Sometimes the days seem so long, but the years are flying by!” I know it feels the same way for me, and probably for you. But, what about kids? How do they judge time? A school year can drag along forever before that final bell rings. And then comes summer . . . those joyous few months that will disappear in a blur.
The kids who live in the Children’s Home at Mount Dora have those same feelings, but their situations are a bit different. Most of them have never experienced what you and I would call a “typical summer.” Yes, they’ll have the same break from school, but they won’t have the same vacation activities as many of their classmates.
You can provide them with many opportunities to have fun over the summer months. Here are a few they may enjoy:
Family time together – The Social Services staff have planned some terrific outings for the kids, house parents, and single moms. There’s a Float Trip down the Ichetucknee River (try saying that fast three times!), kayaking at Rock Springs Run, and a family vacation to Oklahoma. Combine those with some days at the beach, a local amusement park, or an excursion to see a professional baseball game or soccer match and the days will fly by! We want the kids and their house parents to experience all of these.
Camps – This summer there are several camps from which the kids can choose. Central Florida Bible Camp, which is right here in our backyard, has nine different weeks of camp for kids of all ages and spiritual maturity levels. In addition, the Mount Dora Christian Academy is sending a bunch of kids to Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala., where they will experience the thrills of NASA and exploring the heavens. Two from the Home have already signed up for this one! And, there’s a wide array of sports camps where kids can spend a few weeks competing with others who share the same interests; football, volleyball, soccer, and more!
Mission Trips and Youth Rallies – Once again, there are several activities to choose from including a week in Miami meeting the needs of those less fortunate. What an awesome way to demonstrate the servant heart of Jesus! Closer to home are the Equip Conference and SonQuest meetings in Orlando. Hundreds of teens gather from all over the southeast to learn more about Jesus and strengthen their faith at these events. Friendships made here will last a lifetime and the spiritual impact has eternal significance.
You can send a child to camp and provide for many of their other daily needs! The cost of a week at Space Camp is over $500 per child and funding a mission trip is even more.
You can give the children who live at Mount Dora a summer to remember with your gift of $100 or more.
Will you take a few minutes right now to click the DONATE NOW button below and help these kids with your gift? And while you’re at it, pray that each child can experience the joy and excitement of a summer vacation that is free from all the worries and heartaches they have had in their lives.
Your generous gift will create summer time memories that will last a lifetime!
All God’s blessings,
Dr. James E. Moore
