The summer months are perhaps the most enjoyable in any child’s life. When they hear that final school bell ring, all they can think about is play and relaxation for the next ten to twelve weeks. You remember that feeling, don’t you? I sure do, and I’m over 70 years old!
The kids who live at Mount Dora have those same feelings, but their situations are a bit different. Most of them have never experienced what you and I would call a “typical summer.” Yes, they’ll have the same break from school, but they won’t have the same vacation activities as many of their classmates.
You can provide them with many opportunities to have fun over the summer months. Here are three of their favorites.
Bible Camp – we are blessed to have the Central Florida Bible Camp right here in our backyard. There are nine different weeks of camp for kids of all ages and spiritual maturity levels. Zip lines, hiking, paintball, and many other activities make this a special place. It’s all about FUN, FRIENDS, and FAITH. It seems that each year, at least one young person will be baptized and give their life to Christ at camp!
Mission Trips – this summer a group of kids are heading to Honduras. They will help build homes, schools, and churches. They will also distribute food and clothing to children and families. Often, they are called upon to conduct VBS events that will share the stories of the Bible with dozens of children. What an awesome way to demonstrate the servant heart of Jesus!
Sports Camps – the summer is a great time for kids to hone up on their athletic skills at camps designed for their individual sporting interests. These specialized camps provide one-on-one coaching and the chance to compete against kids with similar skill levels. Football, basketball, volleyball, and a wide variety of other sports are available in our area. Don’t forget cheerleaders; they have camps too!
Of course, there are many more activities in the summer like going to the beach, a local amusement park, or a trip to see a professional baseball game or soccer match. We want the kids and their house parents to experience those too.
In order to do this, we need your help. The average cost of a week at bible camp is over $200 per child and a mission trip is about ten times that much! You can give the children who live at Mount Dora a summer to remember with your gift of $100 or more.
Will you take a few minutes right now and help these kids with your gift? And while you’re at it, pray that each child can experience the joy and excitement of a summer vacation that is free from all the worries and heartaches they have had in their lives. Your generous gift will create summer time memories that will last a lifetime!
All God’s blessings,
