Christmas, a time typically associated with joy and family togetherness, can be an incredibly challenging time for single mothers and their children recovering from abusive situations. For these vulnerable individuals, the holiday season often serves as a stark reminder of their difficult circumstances, exacerbating feelings of loneliness, stress, and despair. The contrast between societal expectations of a “perfect” Christmas and their harsh reality can be particularly painful, highlighting the absence of safety, stability, and familial warmth that others may take for granted.
For single mothers, Christmas can bring financial strain, memories of increased drug and alcohol consumption by their expartners, and flashbacks to domestic violence incidents. Single mothers may face additional stress from abusive ex-partners attempting to manipulate contact arrangements with children, using the emotional weight of the holiday season as leverage.
Children from unstable housing situations face their own set of challenges during Christmas. The lack of a stable home environment becomes even more pronounced during a time when others are celebrating in the comfort of their home and family These children may experience intense feelings of isolation, shame, and sadness as they compare their situation to that of their peers.
The absence of presents, holiday decorations, and family traditions can be a tangible and heartbreaking reminder of their circumstances. That is why you have been so important to the children of Mount Dora Children’s Home. Because of your past support, we have been able to provide those who we serve with safety, stability, support, and love. Your support helps those who work with these children — the teachers, counselors, and the loving and caring staff, ensuring that no child at Mount Dora Children’s Home is left without love and support, especially during the Christmas holidays.
This year, the children from MDCH continue to flourish both spiritually and academically, participating in chapel services, enriching extracurricular activities, and community outreach programs. Your support has helped us cultivate an environment where faith and learning thrive together. We are also excited to share that, thanks to your generosity, we are nearing completion of the Stutzman Center for Christian Education—a vital space on our campus dedicated to teaching Bible classes.
Our commitment to providing a nurturing, well-rounded Christian environment for the single moms and the 30 children at the Home has never been stronger. We are dedicated to ensuring that these children experience a Christmas filled with love and joy, just like any child deserves. We kindly ask if you would please consider continuing your financial support during this holiday season. Please return your gift in the envelope enclosed or give now using the QR code below. Your gift will directly contribute to creating a Christian atmosphere where these children and families thrive in a safe, year-around environment including the holidays. We want to share the same blessings we cherish with our own families especially this time of year.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a difference. May you be blessed now and forever,
Dr. Tony Kinkel, Vice President of Development
