Independent Living Program

The goal of the Independent Living Program is to prepare young adults to live independently with confidence, purpose, and faith.

In October 2025, the Mount Dora Children’s Home Board of Trustees approved the launch of a new initiative designed to support young adults as they take their next step toward independence—the Independent Living Program.

This program serves young adults ages 18-22 who are transitioning from our residential program into independent living. Designed to provide guidance, structure, and support during this critical season of life, the Independent Living Program equips participants with the practical, emotional, and spiritual tools they need to thrive as adults.

Building Skills for Lifelong Success

Through a structured, time-limited model, participants receive the following services:

  • Housing

  • Individualized case management

  • Counseling and Christian mentoring

  • Life-skills and workforce preparation

  • Academic and career guidance

  • Ongoing encouragement and accountability

Each participant works closely with a dedicated support team to establish goals, build confidence, and develop the following essential life skills at a healthy, sustainable pace.

  • Decision-making and problem-solving
  • Financial responsibility and budgeting

  • Employment readiness

  • Time management and daily living skills

  • Healthy relationships and communication

  • Personal responsibility and self-advocacy

A Path Toward Independence

As participants develop independence, support is intentionally reduced, allowing them to take on responsibility while maintaining a trusted safety net. Through consistent mentorship, accountability, and encouragement, students are empowered to pursue their educational, career, and personal goals while building a strong foundation for adulthood.
