Residential Services for Children

This photo is of a woman sitting at a desk while talking with and smiling at the 3 girls in front of her.

Our residential services for children provide a loving, nurturing environment for children in need of a stable home and family that provides opportunities for each child to learn, grow, and thrive as individuals.

Children in residential care live in Thompson House, a safe, comfortable, and modern group home staffed with trained, live-in Christian houseparents.

Services provided emphasize building upon each child’s strengths, gifts, and talents while assisting the child in the development of problem-solving, decision-making, and independent living skills to grow in confidence and reach their full potential. They are provided intentional opportunities to practice positive, respectful communication and interactive social skills.

Providing food, shelter, and clothing, however, is only the beginning of providing what’s needed. Children learn they belong and are loved. Sharing family chores teaches children that being part of a family requires accountability and service to others. More importantly, some children attend church for the first time, learning they are a gift from God and priceless to Him. This knowledge has inspired many to receive the love of Jesus and become Christians.

Residential Services for Children include the following:

  • Housing in a licensed home
  • Loving, Christian houseparents
  • Meeting basic needs such as clean clothes, a warm bed, and home-cooked meals
  • Enrollment at Mount Dora Christian Academy, if eligible
  • Tutoring for classes
  • Professional counseling as needed
  • Assistance in accessing health-related needs (medical, dental, and vision)
  • Transportation to church, doctor visits, and other errands
  • Career and vocational exploration
  • Participation in recreational, cultural, and spiritual enrichment activities
